8.30am the day after the night before and a bus roles into Rosyth Navy Dockyard the home of HMS Caledonia and site of the Caledonia Summer Fair. Members from GSSMS and Greenock Model Yacht & Power Boat Club pulled resources to put on a display at the fair. Between us we managed to muster some 38 boats of various classes and scale. 1/72nd scale warships appeared to dominate the display with HMS Intrepid and the Slava class Russian missile cruiser taking centre stage.
The Summer Fair being held on a naval base generated a lot of interest and members were kept busy answering questions from members of the public and naval personnel alike. This was the first time the club had been at Rosyth for a good number of years so no one new what to expect and the large volume of questions soon put every one at ease.
There was something for everyone. Stalls from the Royal Navy, the Marine Commandoes, Bomb Disposal Unit, the Catering Core, battle re-enactment, and some outstanding displays on the parade ground. As if that wasn’t enough the parade ground was flanked by a large area dedicated to a number of smaller stalls selling all types of things and raising money for the chosen charities of the Summer Fair Organisers.
As in the South Side Festival GSSMS also put up a Revell, 1/72nd Scale GATO Class Submarine (retail cost £59.99) for raffle throughout the day. At 4pm the raffle was duly drawn and the lucky winner with a buff ticket (634) was duly notified. Congratulations B.
